The MTA is spotlighting players around the state that are making a difference at their tennis club. First up is Caitlin Cass, a talented junior player from Newcastle who is making a difference at the CLC Y.
Player Name: Caitlin Cass
Age Started Tennis: Age 7
Favorite Shot: Backhand
Favorite Place to Play: CLC YMCA
Favorite Tennis Memory: “It was incredible playing in the youth exhibition match and being a ballgirl for the NAMI fundraiser. NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and this is a yearly fundraiser to help people accept and become aware of mental illness. Watching the pros play the exhibition, and also playing in it myself was an amazing experience, which was something that I have always wanted to do since I saw my first NAMI tennis night. NAMI night is a great thing because it spotlights the often hidden topic of mental illness and also brings the community together, and is a night so many people look forward to.”
Favorite Pro Players: Sloane Stephens and Rodger Federer
How They Are Making A Difference At Your Club: Caitlin has been a part of the Y tennis community since she was 7 years old. Always a helping hand, role model and eager learner, she now volunteers in all our programs. She is great with the red ball and orange ball players, a natural teacher, and a shining example of everything the Y stands for : honesty, responsibility, caring and respect. We are very proud to have representing the tennis program.
